Silhouette

When I got out of the car I got to walk some 10 minutes to my house as the car didn't fit in that narrow lane. I was accompanied by no one so I had to walk 10 mins all alone. It was not a busy lane mainly because it was a Sunday. The town is almost closed on Sundays except for the essentials like medical shops and the only district hospital it has.

I was terrified while walking down that narrow lane and I still remember the sound of silence. I can literally hear my heart thumping as if it's about to come out at any moment. The lane had no street lights on, so my only supporter at that moment was my mobile phone's flashlight whose battery was also about to die.  The road was dark and dead silent. I can literally hear no one except for my own footsteps. For a moment I felt like I was followed by someone but when I turned around I discovered it is my own steps.

I was so terrified not only because I was alone but because it was almost 11pm, too dark to be real, I was a little drunk as well and can't even hear an insect and obviously I was all alone, walking and returning back to home from the party.

My stiletto's pointed heel tapped the ground as I walked and I can hear the echo reach my drunk ears. I cursed Saurav for forcing me to drink. My feet were shaking and there are possibly two reasons for that, first of all, my legs were hurting too bad, and second probably because of the unrealized fear I was experiencing walking down the deserted, narrow lane.

I literally saw nothing except the darkness. I didn't know what to expect next. As I was also feeling quite dizzy at that moment all I can think was to reach home and fall on my bed and go to deep sleep and not wake up unless hit by the morning light. I felt better when I fantasized about me being on my bed and having a good sleep.

I looked at the screen on my phone to discover that I have to walk some 8 mins more to fall into a deep sleep in my cozy bed. Well, 8 mins is just an estimated time it might take more minutes as I was not walking fast enough, all thanks to my aching feet. For a moment I thought of taking them out and walking barefoot but as I can't see what come next I was afraid of hurting my feet with some piece of glass that would be probably lying on the ground. I would rather bear the pain caused by my stilettos than the pain caused by steeping on a piece of glass.

Though I was a little drunk and was feeling dizzy I was in my sense. As I got no one to accompany me to my house I had the responsibility of myself all on my own shoulders. Slowly as I stepped forward, with each passing step I started realizing how freaking lonely I am. No one even cared to drop me home safe. The colleagues I have back in my office just know how to flirt with me, and if I am not willing to give them what they want they don't even hesitate to try another girl out. Talking about female friends I hardly got any, thanks to my uncontrolled mouth. Even though I have a friend who understands me a bit, she is often quite busy with her kids and family. I badly miss my family in these types of moments. Mom always used to warn me about the cruel world and she used to tell me  'the motive behind every single person doing you a favor is that they want something in return from you.' I didn't use to understand why mom use to tell me these unless I lost her. It breaks my broken heart to further finer pieces when I realize there is literally no one waiting for me at home. I have already lost two gems of my life in a brutal accident.  I got no tears to shed as they are all finished and dried up.

I miss being that cry baby to my parents, who used to literally cry for every tiniest thing and would get everything on her plate. Now that I got no one except for my own broken self I  search for my parents in the people around me. Relatives and neighbors don't really give a thing about me as I have already shouted: "mind your own freaking business" to them some one thousand times when they tried to piss me off trying to tell me how weak I am and how hard is it for a girl to survive on her own. I didn't let their narrow mindset affect me and am doing well and good all by myself. Though I feel lonely at times like any normal person will feel if he/she lives alone.
I am not complaining about my life though. I have got nothing to complain about, everything I ever cared for has already been brutally snatched away from me. Now that I am 25 and it's almost 2 years since I lost my dear ones I literally don't care about anything else. Yet I try to search for my parents in people around me in case I will find them. I mean, who knows?

The wind blew and gave me goosebumps. I checked the time and it's not more minutes left now and as much as I can see from my flashlight I know that I am about to reach my sweet home.

I passed several turns until the last one was left. I heaved a sigh and thanked God that I finally reached. I crossed the last turn and my eyes couldn't believe what I saw in front of me.  A cold sweat ran down my face and my heart beat faster than ever. My feet started shaking and I wanted to scream a loud but I just held it back pressing my hands real hard against my mouth. I hurriedly turned off the flashlight and retired back to the turning and hid there behind an old wall.

The sky slowly cleared up and a full moon shone up in the sky making everything clearly visible. I peeped through the small crack in the wall and saw a silhouette of someone standing right before my house's main door. The person or I don't what it really is was facing my house and was staring at the door. It was kind of a huge and tall figure, somewhat 6 feet tall. All I can see was the figure's black back. I freaked out, even more, when I looked at the time-11:15pm.  Who waits for someone outside their house at this time and that too at a very creepy position that would literally give a person a heart attack?

Unable to decide what should be my next step, I continued hiding behind the wall and aimlessly waited there for the person or whatever it is to go away.

It didn't even move a little bit nor do I. I tried to contact my neighbors but as I mentioned no one is really nice to me they didn't bother to pick my call up and even if one of them does he just hung up saying" Wrong number"

I watched the figure hoping that it will move and go away. For a moment I thought I was dreaming so I pinched myself but the figure right in front of my house didn't vanished. Was it because I am drunk? I asked myself and rubbed my eyes and looked at the figure again, it didn't vanished this time as well.

I can't wait there forever and my legs are also hurting real bad. I want to lie on my bed and go to a sound sleep but I am too afraid to even go near the dark figure.

I felt some creepy thing touch my feet and when I looked down a loud scream came out of my mouth and I was not even able to control it. The rat also got frightened and ran as fast as it can. I breathed heavily and continued peeping. The figure slowly turned around and caught my eyes. My heart skipped a beat and send a  chill down my spine. I looked at the eyes of the figure in the light provided by the full moon and I saw total black eyes. He had no white part of the eye. His pupils had occupied his whole eyes. A total black eye? My heart started beating a thousand miles a second.

I instantly closed my eyes real tight and hid behind the wall chanting every prayer I ever learned. My heart felt like it would explode at any moment. I applied the formula that every child applies when they are small- if I can't see it, then it will also not see me and continued closing my eyes.

I closed my eyes so tight that they started hurting. Once my heartbeat slowly started coming to its normal pace I slowly opened my eyes and peeped through the crack in the wall. I heaved a sigh when I discovered that there was no one standing in front of my door anymore. I felt relaxed. Perhaps it was some thief waiting for his friends or something. My scream might have frightened him. I must be careful from now onwards, I didn't realize that thieves are coming to our society this late at night. I should warn the neighbors as well and try to work on the security of our area. I will call our secretary tomorrow, I made a mental note.

I finally felt happy that now I can go to my house and have a peaceful and sound sleep, but it seems like life has got some other plans for me. I turned to return back when what I saw next made each and every part of my body shake with immense fear. My jaws dropped deep down on the ground as I discovered the tall figure right in front of me staring right into my eyes with his total black eyes.
